How can workers be recruited, trained and retained? This was discussed on April 19, 2024 at the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum Leipzig. On the podium: Green Party members of the state parliament Petra Cagalj Sejdi and Gerhard Liebscher on the topic of “Saxony needs immigration – attracting, training and retaining skilled workers”. The event attracted numerous interested parties, including representatives from business, education and politics.

The discussion focused on the question of how to get immigrants interested in Saxony as a place to live and work. The hurdles and structural obstacles that make it difficult to enter the world of work were also discussed. The panel agreed that Saxony must advertise its cosmopolitanism and genuine welcome in order to attract workers from Germany and abroad. In passing, the panel discussed whether immigration is the right term.
Regardless of the right term, it is the legal framework that companies need to enable successful labor integration. With successful labor integration, we create a triple WIN.

WIN one – the immigrant benefits from appreciation, which is also expressed in their salary.
WIN two – companies benefit from the professional potential of immigrants.
WIN three – society benefits because work integration is THE key to social integration.
We would like to thank you for the invitation to the podium and the constructive discussion with the panel guests and the audience.
