The author and journalist Dimitrij Kapitelman will read from his novel and then discuss the Saxon present, diversity as a historical foundation of German society and integration as a task in times of global crises with other guests.
“A Formality in Kiev” is the story of a family that once moved to a foreign country full of hope to start a new life and ended up without a home. Told with the bittersweet humor of a son who stoically tries to become German.
Dmitrij Kapitelman can speak Saxon better than the official to whom he applies for a German passport. After 25 years as a compatriot, most of his life. But no formality is too small for the bureaucracy when it comes to immigrants. Ms. Kunze demands an apostille from Kiev. So he travels to the city of his birth, with which he has nothing left but childhood memories.
These memories are beautiful, as loving, unfailing parents await them. And difficult, because the family is currently estranged. Until fate brings them together again in Kiev.
